2019: Year in Review

TRita with her mini horsehe new decade is here already, so we invite you to take a look back with us at how far Nexus has come in our first few years of operation. 2019 was yet another momentous year for Nexus Equine, and our capacity to support Oklahoma horses continues to expand―from double-digit percentage increases in adoptions and transport services, to success with our innovative Take Two Leasing program and Oklahoma 4-H Equine Makeover challenge, we’ve been able to help more horses than ever.

Comparing 2019 to our previous years is encouraging: we’ve gone from 4 equine adoptions in 2016, to 18 in 2017, 36 in 2018, and up to 64 adoptions in 2019! Our transport services scaled up, too, going from 17 equines transported in 2017, to 28 in 2018, with 57 horses transported to partner agencies in 2019. Our unique Take Two Leasing program served one horse in 2018 and two in 2019, and our new 4-H Equine Makeover challenged 17 Oklahoma youths to nurture and present horses this past year.

The best news of all is that we have been given the opportunity to own a property which will allow us to carry out our mission both now and in the future—a blessing for Nexus and the horses we serve. In 2020-2021, Nexus will develop this property to meet our ever-growing needs. By every measure, Nexus continues to increase our impact, and we’re especially excited about utilizing our new property to expand our work with horses.

We can’t do it alone, and we extend our sincere gratitude to our hardworking volunteers, our generous donors, and our equine-loving community for making all of this work possible. Our collective efforts are garnering recognition that we can all be proud of―most recently, Nexus Equine was featured in The Washington Post (see more of Nexus in the News on our online News Center). Thank you for helping Nexus become what it is and continue to grow into the future.

Here’s to even more bright futures and positive outcomes for horses in 2020 and beyond!
